Sep. 7/8 Picks

Mike Ness:  Badgers vs. Tennessee Tech - James White will be the centerpiece of the Badgers' offense as it tramples the Golden Eagles drive-after-drive. Score 55-14, Badgers.

Notre Dame vs. Michigan - Michigan's offensive line vs. Notre Dame's defensive line is what this game is all about. The winner will be which team makes the least amount of mistakes in the second half, and stamina. Score 35-24, Notre Dame.

Packers vs. 49ers - The Packers spent the offseason training with the college ranks on how to specifically stop the dazzling 49ers read option offense. The Packers will have to stay strict to a balanced, yet unpredictable offensive scheme to keep a lead; if that even happens. The 49ers world-class physicality will defeat the Packers in the end. Score 31-21, 49ers.

Vikings vs. Lions - Two very inconsistant teams are matched up here. The Vikings have a better position-by-position roster, but the Lions have a much more explosive offense. Adrian Peterson's ground game will be too much for the Lions front seven. If Christian Ponder limits his mistakes, the Vikings should gain the advantage quickly. Score 24-16, Vikings.

Giants vs. Cowboys - The Tony Romo-Dez Bryant connection is one of the most dangerous in the league. Don't be surprised to see Bryant catch three touchdowns with the Giants subpar secondary, and downgraded front seven. The new 4-3 defense better suits the Cowboys, and will keep this game from being a shootout like it has been in the past for these two division rivals. Score 35-17, Cowboys.

Erik Austin:

Badgers - Joel Stave rebounds from a shaky first game and connects with Jared Abbrideris deep again, but the offense is driven by the new "Pony Express" of White, MG3 (Melvin Gordon III) and Corey Clement. Defense again doesn't allow a point. 56-0, UW.

Notre Dame vs Michigan - This will be a tight ballgame, and one that Brian Kelley knows they need to win. But the game is in Ann Arbor, and Michigan has better players. 28-24 Wolverines.

Packers - Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson have had recurring nightmares since January, and all their worry is justified. Green Bay will struggle to win games all season because of their offensive line. The Niners have Aldon Smith. End of story. 31-21, Niners.

Vikes - Detroit's offense is potent, and they have a better D-Line. Ponder and Minnesota continue to ponder how good of an idea it really is. 24-14, Lions.

Giants at Cowboys - Jerrah's World has been waiting for a winner and they might have one this year. Tough call in a tough division. I say 35-31 Cowboys.
